2019 April

The Meeting:

The meeting was called to order at 2:00 pm by President Kevin Vetter on April 7, 2019 at the Bismarck Public Library.  Other officers in attendance were Treasurer, Victor Wingerter; and Secretary, Darrel Spencer.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the club members introduced themselves.

Treasurer Vic Wingerter reported that the CDG&MS has $8,546.67  in the bank with all bills paid.  Victor also mentioned that members need to pay their 2019 membership dues.  The report was then approved.

Secretary, Darrel Spencer read the minutes from March 17, 2019 CDG&MS meeting and they were approved as read.

Old Business:

There was no old business to discuss.

New Business:

Roy Oliger reported that the Rocky Mountain Federation Mineralogical Society has a new 2019 Directory out that would be informative for the rock club members to look at.

With no further new business, meeting was adjourned.

Program:

Ray Oliger presented a very interesting program on Rocks that becomes fluorescent under a black light.           The Club members who brought rocks were impressed with the variety of glowing colors their mineral sample exhibited as it fluoresced.

Ray stated that one use of these fluorescent minerals is determining an authentic U. S. Postal Stamp from a forgery with the use of a black light.  The authentic stamp will glow in the dark.
